ISACA’s Jon Brandt Discusses Workforce Efforts, Resources and Cyber Operations
This year’s ISACA State of Cybersecurity report reveals trends related to both the cybersecurity workforce and the threat landscape, including issues around understaffing and retention. “The imbalance between supply and talent is unchanged,” says Jon Brandt, director of professional practices and innovation at ISACA.
The report shows that any positive effect that the global COVID-19 pandemic had on retention last year has worn off, and enterprises are now engaged in a battle to retain cybersecurity staff.
But there has been some improvement. The trend to require a university degree for entry-level cybersecurity positions is reversing. “In the 2020 report, we advocated people drop the university requirement for entry-level positions. I’m not saying it can’t be listed as a favorable or a preferred credential, but don’t make it as a requirement. Largely speaking, if you look at the data by geography this year, our readers obviously took that on board because the requirements went down,” Brandt says.
